The Chief Secretary visited Batang Lupar on 21-24 July,1924.In his visit, he ordered re-building of Simanggang Bazaar because the buildings at that time were in a very dilapidated and unsanitary state. However, the occupants disagreed. The proposal dragged on until one day, that was, on 13/01/1928 the bazaar was completely destroyed by fire. Picture shows the new bazaar, consisting 48 shops, each shop 16'x100', was completed in December,1929.
